  1. I am curious about the 9w1 typing for Amelie. I have also seen her typed as a 4.

    I don’t ask as a challenge I just would like a better understanding.Thank you.

    1. Good question.

The biggest distinction between Type 9 and Type 4 is the fact that the latter is an Image type – concerned with how they come across to others, what their image is (usually one of being “unique”); as well as a Heart Type – a main theme being Sadness in their lives, and how they deal with it.

Neither Type 4 related aspect truly applies to Amelie, in a main type fashion. She does have 4 in her Tritype, so traces of that will play into her personality expression, but she is first and foremost not an Image or Heart Type.

She is obviously a Withdrawn type, so the other two options could be either 5 and 9. She isn’t truly 5 either, for she isn’t concerned with accumulating (expertise) knowledge in a way to feel more secure and less anxious. I’ve written more about the differences between Type 4 and 5 here: https://typevolution.wordpress.com/2016/09/19/qa-whats-the-difference-between-a-5w4-and-4w5/

So that leaves us with Type 9. Amelie is an easygoing individual who is slow to anger, concerned with staying in a comfortable “bubble”, and like an SP 9 “enjoys the simple things in life”. This scene is a good example of an Sp 9: “[she] enjoys all sorts of little pleasures, putting her hand in a bag of seeds, piercing the crust of crème brûlée with the tip of a spoon.”
